Ask Not...Want Not !!

Howdy :)

Well..it looks like the 'perfect season' remains as it stood before the 'superbowl'. By now you probably all know the Patriots lost to the NY Giants and rightfully so! I must say I've never seen this year or any year for that matter, the Patriots play so terrible. They would have never made it to the 'big game' if this was there typical type of play. I don't know what was 'wrong', but something was. Over confidence, perhaps, but clearly there was more to the story that we won't hear about. Was it really a 'damaged' Brady? The way he was passing and not menuvering out of the 'pocket' on blitzes was of 'high school' play. Definintely not the 'Mr. cool, calm and collected' that he is noted for. Infact, many times you saw his frustrations and even anger as the camera focused in on him on the plays that went 'sour'.
As for the play making itself, the key to the game was when they went for the yardage on the 4th down when a field goal should have been attempted. A bad call for sure on behalf of Brady and company; Belichek included !

I often talk about 'karma' in sports and if a team has it, nothing can stop them, despite the bad plays or bad officiating. Yes, I thought there were a few penalties against the Pats that were very questionable, but they ( penalties ) didn't loose the game for them. The did it all by themselves. The 'magical plays' didn't materialize which they often did during the regular season. One can't expect to 'win' on 'magic'. It takes hard effort and good team work; something that was lacking throughout the entire game for the Patriots.

In the same breath, you can't take anything away from them or from the NY Giants. The Patriots broke just about all records getting to the super bowl and that will not and can not be taken away from them. Just would have been 'sweet' if they could have gone the 19-0.

My hat goes off to the Giants. They out played and kept their composure in every aspect of the game. Congratulations ! The better team at that point in time won as it should have been. Perhaps in hindsight, the Pats will learn something and come next season, be a better team at the end ! We shall see ! As it's often said,
" it's not the 'score' that matters, but how one plays the game' !

This just goes to show you ....what often is expected isn't meant to be ! A lesson that holds true thru life no matter what it is. So, with that, my cliche' that I often quote holds more meaning now than ever before!

"Always expect the unexpected so when the unexpected happens you were expecting it".....:)
So with that my friends, I bid you a happy superbowl weekend....and a post super bowl week. There is always next year for all the teams now !
Till next time America...SMUGS :)
Always,
Steve
